Our next LVH summer hike will be the Trexler Nature Preserve, in Schnecksville PA, a 20 minute NW drive from Allentown's city center. We will be doing a 3.5 mile section of the over 20 miles of varied trails this park has to offer. We'll go through highlands, lowlands, meadows, forests, and even some swamp areas along Jordan Creek.
This is a MODERATE level, well maintained, blazed trail. No rock climbing and relatively flat, but does have some prolonged uphill stretches. The rewards though are great with spectacular views, covered bridges, wildlife, and if we're lucky, we'll get to see some Buffalo (or Bison, as they are correctly called) along the way.
Check the weather and dress appropriately. Sturdy walking shoes are all you need. There is water available at the start and restroom facilities available along the way. This is a RAIN OR SHINE event. I hiked this trail in cold, pouring winter rain and I was warm and dry the entire time (only because I was dressed properly).
Our previous hike at the Ironton Rail Trail was a huge success and quite a bit of fun - this hike should be that and more. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
