Laughing at My Nightmare, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to spread a message of positivity while providing equipment grants to those living with muscular dystrophy. In 2011, a kid named Shane Burcaw from Bethlehem started a blog to tell his life story of living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a disease that makes his muscles waste away as he ages. Now 25 years old, his stories make fun of the problems he deals with as a young man building an independent life. The blog was so successful it inspired Shane and his cousin Sarah to create a company that could help people laugh more and help others living with the same disease. Shane has also written two books and has another in the works.
